Why enterprises who keep their IT models static will face trouble ahead
IT staff are spending more than 30% of their time on new service requests and resolving issues and only 15% of their time allocated to innovation, according to a new piece of research by Dimension Data.
The move represents a year on year decline by 25%, which represents a warning sign, the company argues; enterprises who don’t evolve their IT models and innovate within them, with the demand for improving customer engagement and the need to crunch ever greater amounts of data rising, will face stormy waters ahead.
“Successful digital transformation requires the right mix of people, processes, and tools,” said Barney Taylor, Dimension Data managing director UK & Ireland in a statement. “However, IT service automation platforms are expensive and time consuming to develop and successfully integrate into hybrid IT environments.”
Only one in five of the 275 organisations surveyed said they have fully automated and optimised their infrastructure, while 25% are highly automated, 32% say they have a ‘medium’ level of automation, while limited (13%) and no automation (9%) had smaller turnouts.
“Optimising IT infrastructure and operational processes through automation is key to successfully achieving digital transformation,” the report noted. “Leveraging new technology models such as cloud and hybrid IT requires continued investment in people, process, tools, and technologies to enable businesses and their IT departments to differentiate, compete more effectively, and increase agility and productivity.
“Flexible, scalable and agile infrastructures are essential to support these new developments. Optimisation of infrastructure as well as operational processes will be table stakes for success.”
